糖心视频 recognizes that changes may be experienced in the financial situation of a household.听 While the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines financial aid eligibility based on information from two years prior, the Professional Judgment process exists to reevaluate a student鈥檚 aid based on certain significant changes.
What changes are NOT applicable?
- Standard living expenses (i.e., utilities, car payments)
- Mortgage payments
- Personal debt
- Bankruptcy
Who is not eligible for a Professional Judgment?
- High school dual enrolled students
- Student鈥檚 with a prior bachelor鈥檚 degree (only eligible for Cost of Attendance adjustments in the form of private education loans)
- Students who are eligible for federal aid
What changes might be applicable?
Change to Student Aid Index (SAI)
NOTE: A change to the SAI could result in a change of eligibility for need-based awards. However, it is NOT guaranteed. Possible changes include:
- Loss or change of employment
- Child Support change
- Death of parent or spouse
- Excessive medical expenses (must exceed 11% of adjusted gross income)
- One-time taxable income (IRA distribution, pension distribution, etc.)
Change to Cost of Attendance (COA)
NOTE: A change to the COA does not result in a change to need based awards. It simply increases the total budget (known as the COA) which allows for an increase to private education loans only. Possible changes include:
- Costs associated with a student鈥檚 disability
- One-time purchase of a computer for educational use
- Cost of professional licensure required for student鈥檚 major

The FAFSA opens October 1 of each year and closes June 30. For the 2023-2024 FAFSA, the opening date is October 1, 2022 and the academic year will close on June 30, 2024.
- The FAFSA will be processed by the Financial Aid office within 5 business days. An email notification will be sent to the student once the application is received. Additional documentation may be required to complete your financial aid file.
